Signs It Is Time for a New Faucet

Some faucet problems can be fixed with a new cartridge, O-ring or washer. Replacement usually makes more sense when you see:

  • Leaks that keep coming back after one or more repairs.
  • Corrosion, pitting or a flaking finish on the spout or handles.
  • Weak flow that does not improve after you clean the aerator.
  • Water or mold under the sink around the supply lines or the faucet base.
  • Stiff or loose handles that make it hard to set the temperature.
  • Age. Many faucets start wearing out after about 15 years, and parts for older models can be hard to find.
  • A remodel where the old fixture does not suit the new sink, countertop or style.

What Happens During a Replacement

  • We shut off water at the fixture stops, or at the main if the stops are seized.
  • We disconnect the supply lines and remove the old faucet and any corroded mounting hardware.
  • We clean the sink deck so the new base sits flat and seals properly.
  • We install the new faucet to the manufacturer’s instructions, with new supply lines and new shutoff valves where needed.
  • We restore water, flush the lines and check every connection and the drain for leaks.

If the job uncovers a bigger problem, such as a cracked sink, a failing drain or rotted cabinet floor, we explain what we found and price it before doing anything more.

Do you replace faucets on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island?

Yes. We replace kitchen, bathroom, laundry and outdoor faucets on all three islands. Our Oahu team is based in Waipahu, our Maui team works out of Makawao, and we serve homes across the Big Island. Big Island arrival windows depend on where you are, so we confirm timing when you book.

Should I repair my faucet or replace it?

Repair is usually worth it when the faucet is fairly new and the problem is a single worn cartridge, washer or O-ring. Replace it when leaks keep returning, the body is corroded, parts are no longer made, or the faucet is around 15 years old. We look at the faucet first and tell you which option makes more sense before you pay for either.

Can I buy my own faucet and have you install it?

Yes. We are glad to install a faucet you have already purchased. Before you buy, check the number of holes in your sink or countertop and the spacing between them, since that decides which models will fit. If you are unsure, send us the model and we can confirm it works with your sink and supply lines.

What should I do while I wait for a leaking faucet to be replaced?

Close the shutoff valves under the sink by turning them clockwise. If they will not close or they leak, shut off the main water valve to the home. Dry the cabinet floor, set out a towel or pan, and keep the cabinet doors open so the area can air out. Then call us to schedule the replacement.
