A shower looks simple from the outside, but behind the tile is a mixing valve, supply lines, a drain and a waterproof layer that all have to work together. When one of those is done poorly, water ends up in the wall or subfloor. All Aloha Plumbing installs new and replacement showers for homes, condos and rentals on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island. Why a Plumber Should Install Your Shower

Plenty of small jobs are fine to do yourself. A shower is not one of them. The valve has to sit at the right depth for the trim, the drain has to line up with the pan, and the pan or base has to slope toward the drain so water never sits. Mistakes often stay hidden until a leak stains a ceiling or softens a floor. Our plumbers have the tools to rough in, test and troubleshoot so the shower works the first time.

Choices to Make Before the Install

We go over these with you before work starts so the finished shower fits how you use it:

  • Budget: a prefabricated base and surround costs less than a custom tile shower
  • Access: a low or curbless entry for anyone with limited mobility
  • Door or curtain: which way a door swings, or whether you want an open walk-in
  • Features: handheld sprayers, a second head, a bench or a steam unit
  • Materials: tile, stone, acrylic or fiberglass walls and base
  • Style: fixtures and finishes that match the rest of the bathroom

Moving a drain or adding a new shower may require a permit. You approve upfront pricing before anything begins, and financing plus senior and military discounts are available.

Shower Installation by Island

  • Oahu: Our Oahu team works from Waipahu and covers Honolulu, Kapolei, Ewa Beach, Mililani, Aiea and the Windward side. Honolulu condos and high-rises share drain stacks, so a shower swap there has to tie in cleanly and may follow building rules. What to Expect on Install Day

We protect the floors, shut off water and remove the old shower if there is one. Next we set or adjust the supply lines and drain, install the valve, and test for leaks with the wall still open. Then the base or pan goes in with the proper slope, followed by backer board and waterproofing, the wall surface, and finally the trim, showerhead and door. Before we leave, we run the shower, check temperature control and confirm the drain clears.

Do you install showers on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island?

What affects the price of a new shower?

The biggest factors are the type of shower and how much plumbing has to change. A prefabricated base in the same spot is the simplest job. A custom tile shower, a relocated drain, multiple heads or a steam unit all add cost. We give you upfront pricing for your exact job and you approve it before work begins.

Can a shower go anywhere in the house?

Not always. A shower needs a water supply, a drain with enough slope, a vent, a floor that can carry the weight and good ventilation to control moisture. Spots far from existing plumbing, or on a concrete slab, take more work. Adding a new shower may require a permit. We look at the space and tell you what is practical.

How do you keep a new shower from leaking?

Leaks are prevented in layers. We test the valve and supply connections before the wall closes, set the pan or base with a steady slope to the drain, and install backer board with a waterproof membrane behind the finished surface. Seams and fixture openings are sealed last, and we run the shower before we leave.
