Good To Know

Do you repair slab leaks on all three islands?

Yes. All Aloha Plumbing handles slab leak detection and repair on Oahu, Maui and the Big Island. Our Oahu team works from Waipahu and our Maui team from Makawao. On the Big Island we serve towns such as Kailua-Kona, Hilo and Waimea as a service area. Because the Big Island covers so much ground, arrival windows there vary by location.

How can I tell if I have a slab leak?

The most common clue is a water bill that rises with no change in use. Other signs include a warm spot on the floor, damp flooring, new cracks, a musty smell or the sound of running water with every fixture off. You can also turn off all fixtures and watch the water meter. If it keeps moving, water is escaping somewhere.

What should I do first if I suspect a slab leak?

Shut off the main water valve to stop water from flowing into the slab, then call a licensed plumber. Move rugs and belongings away from wet areas and dry what you can to slow mold growth. Avoid breaking up flooring yourself. A plumber can locate the leak first so only the needed section of concrete is opened.

Is it better to repair the slab or reroute the pipe?

It depends on the pipe and where the leak is. A single leak in otherwise sound pipe is often fixed with a spot repair through the slab. If the line is old or has already failed more than once, rerouting new pipe through the walls or attic can prevent future digging. We explain each option and give upfront pricing before work starts.
